First day of Winter

Busy morning for me today. I took Thumper to the Kookaburra room at Creche, then BallFiend and I joined the kids from the Kinder room on their first ever excursion to a local youth centre (they were allowed in, despite the fact that kinder kids are not yet actually youth). The walk to the youth centre would normally take me about 7 mins. With 25 kinder-aged kids, plus some siblings in prams, it took 30 minutes. Not just due to the dawdling, but also all the stops along the way to spot things such as:

  1. shoes thrown over power lines,
  2. house numbers,
  3. a pet bunny in a front garden,
  4. taxis, and
  5. a police car.
We also had to "Stop. Look. Listen. Think." at each cross-street before crossing it.

At the youth centre, the kids had a great time, jumping on trampolines, playing table-air-hockey, table-soccer, basketball, football, cricket and jumping on a gym mat. Then we returned back to Creche, singing classic kids marching anthems as we walked.

Back at creche, BallFiend and I joined the other kids for some lunch (chicken curry and mashed potatoes - yum!) then I stopped by a local cafe to join a few other mums for a coffee and chat before carting BallFiend off to his "other kinder" (a sessional kinder which he attends Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, and Thursday mornings).

Back at home, I decided that while there was beautiful sunshine outside, I would make the most of it and do some gardening. One large bin-full of weeds later and I am now officially exhausted, so I am going to relax and enjoy the half-hour of child-free time, before I go and collect BallFiend from kinder.
