BallFiend and his name-sake

Email correspondance with The Historian, her son was born just 9 days after BallFiend, and was given the same first name.

Hi The Historian

I had been meaning to phone you a few days ago - wanted to find out how you were going after I got P's email saying you had had a caesarian (but didn't want to call too soon, as I thought you would still be recovering!).  Then I came down with a bad case of tonsillitis, so I haven't been out of bed for 3 days, let alone doing much talking!
I was sorry to hear that you didn't get the birth experience you had hoped for, but it is good that you got to experience labour for a while, and even better to hear that your MasterH is doing well now after getting so sick. Sounds like you have all had a very tough beginning - I hope that everything just gets better from now on! Really glad to hear that breastfeeding has been easy for you. I have been needing quite a lot of help with it - had some very painful days after difficulties attaching him. Thankfully I  have had two full days in the Breastfeeding Clinic at [the hospital] and we finally seem to be getting very comfortable with it now.

Regarding your choice of name... we can't fault you on your good taste, can we? :) It's funny - when we chose BallFiend for our baby, we didn't know of any other [name], and couldn't even think of any famous [name] except for [an actor]. Then as soon as I started telling people his name, we have had several people say that they know of one or two other [name] who have been born recently!

I just saw JC's email announcing the birth of her baby - no name given... what are the odds that she will call her boy [name] too!

Anyway, I must go and feed our ravenous little monster now (he is nearly 4 kg now!! Up from 3.54kg at birth). I will give you a call in the next day or so, once my sore throat clears up and I am able to talk more easily.

Stay rested and well!
with love,
Stompy

More announcing BallFiend

Email to The Historian, announcing BallFiend's arrival.

Hi The Historian

BallFiend finally came into the world on Tuesday August 8  at 1.46 pm.... 9 days late but just in time for the census. He weighed in at 3.54 kg. I had a natural birth which went very well overall (I had to have my waters broken, but everything progressed fine after that).

I am going well - although both DeepSpice and I are tired out!

Hope you are well and that you have your baby soon (if you haven't already).

Give me a call if you feel like a chat and want to hear more details about the birth - it was an amazing experience!

best wishes,
Stompy

More announcing BallFiend

Email to the breastfeeding counsellor from my local Australian Breastfeeding Association group:

Hello JC
Just a quick email to let you know that our baby BallFiend arrived on Tuesday August 8th, 1.46 pm.... 9 days late but just in time for the census. He weighed in at 3.54 kg. I had a natural birth which went quite well overall. I am going well - although both DeepSpice and I are tired out!

I have just returned home from a slightly extended stay in hospital as BallFiend had not put on quite enough weight by day 2. Am still getting the hang of breastfeeding ... am finding positioning and attachment is not always straight foward, but BallFiend and I are getting there.

Looking forward to coming along to another group meeting soon.

regards,
Stompy

Not long now

Email correspondance with The Historian and JC friends who I met at the ante-natal aerobics class whilst pregnant with BallFiend.

Hi JC and Stompy,
this is just an email to get your addresses into my
address book and vice versa, so we can find eachother
when bits of paper have long been lost in the chaos of
new babies!
If you're not already a mum, Stompy, I hope you will be
in a few days. Perhaps I'll see you both this
Thursday; if not good luck, and lets find each other
with our babies soon.

all the best,
The Historian.

Hi The Historian and JC

Thanks for sending the first email The Historian - I had been planning to do the same, so your email addresses were in my address book, but I hadn't gotten around to it. (Too uncomfortable to spend time at the computer these days).

Guess what!  I am still pregnant!! Getting a bit frustrated now. Feels like I may well be at aerobics on Thursday.

Hope you are both well,
Stompy

Still waiting...

Email correspondance with JY, a colleague and friend, soon after I commenced maternity leave prior to BallFiend's birth:

Hi Stompy....Thanks for the email re your address.  How's life going?  Enjoying the time off?  Or just too busy to settle?

The trip was great.  really enjoyed Turkey.  Finding it hard to settle.  came back to work last week and have just caught up today re emails.  Still minutes to raed, agendas to get to and I have no idea as people email me what some things are about.  Just switched off.
So...What's news with you?  feeling OK?  Nesting kicked in?  Case packed?  I do hope you're not missing work.  Actually...Will be attending a meeting there on Thursday.  Hopefully catchup with Mike, etc at some stage.

So...I'll just do a bit of reading before my 3.30pm meeting.  Hope all is well.  Take care of yourself...

Hi JY

Glad to hear you are back safe and sound and had a good trip. Pity you have to come back to minutes etc. - hopefully it won't be too painful easing back into work mode. I have to say that I am not missing work at all! :)

I am officially 'due' this week, so am pretty much sitting around, waiting for the baby to show up.
Feeling pretty good overall... the bump is very heavy now and I have been getting sciatic nerve pain sometimes when the baby moves around (which is bloody awful).  Have been getting a few practise contractions each day but no sign of labour as yet. Am hoping the baby will be born on Saturday as that was my mum's birthday.

Stay tuned... we will be emailing the news as soon as there is any!
