Waiting, waiting...

Email correspondance with VolubleK, towards the end of my pregnancy with BallFiend.

Hi Stompy,

Hi VolubleK

I keep planning to phone you in the evenings but get distracted and forget!

I am still in the 'holding pattern'... the baby seems to be dropping lower all the time - even feels like it is burrowing down sometimes! A few practise contractions now and then, but no sign of actual labour starting yet.

I am getting quite sick of carting around the heavy load on front... but also not feeling entirely mentally prepared for actually having a baby to care for, so I am not quite at the 'completely fed up with being pregnant' stage yet.

How are you going? is it better or worse working an extra day each week?

I will probably be coming into the city for aerobics on Thursday night (5.30), so I could come in earlier and meet you for lunch. I also have an appointment with the midwife on Friday but that is at 12.30, so might not work out so well to meet for lunch after this since they seem to always run late with appointments.

Burrowing!

Extract from an email to CutLuce:

Hi CutLuce

No sign of Wriglor [BallFiend] as yet, but I can feel it burrowing down, lower and lower every day.  So it is clearly planning it's escape at some time in the forseeable future! :)

The build-up

From an email sent to a friend, when I was late in pregnancy with BallFiend:
I am still in the holding pattern.... been getting a few practice contractions now. I have about a week and a half to go! Keep switching between complete disbelief that this is actually going to happen, then nervous anxiety and then excitement!

Correspondance with CutLuce

Email correspondance with CutLuce (who was on holidays in Thailand at the time):

Hello,

Just to let you know - we have moved bungalows.  We are now at Harry's bungalows.  It is just down the beach from where we were previously staying, however it is much nicer for the same price.  it is also a bit more secluded and many less german tourists.

We have made friends with many locals who really look after us.  Last night we found a new restaruant round the corner that we didn't know about.  The owner of the restaruant runs out to say hello to us when we walk past.  The people here are so friendly.

The new contact details are: [somewhere in Ko Samui, Thailand]

Hi CutLuce

Thanks... we have to know where you are so we can phone with any news, should the baby appear early.
I can totally understand trying to avoid German tourists!

Do you know when you are returning to Melbourne?
I am planning (ha ha!) to have the baby [BallFiend] about a week late so it can share Mum's birthday, so you might be back in time?

Hope you are having a relaxing time over there. If you are thinking of getting any Thai baby clothes, try to get stuff that will fit when the baby is at least 6 momths old (size 00 here), or even 1 year old (size 0 here). We have heaps of stuff to last it until then, and I imagine Thai clothes will be more suited to Summer weather.

I am pretty tired now, most of the time - so very glad to have finished work. My belly is really quite big now (though still no where near as big as many other pregnant women's). My days are terrribly exciting now: I usually spend a bit of time preparing things for the bub, a bit of time exercising and a bit of time sleeping! Went and met the local maternal and child health care nurse yesterday [NurseLynn]. She seems nice. It reminded me of going with mum when she took DesignerSis to the nurse as a baby!

Our new driveway is getting concreted at the moment ... finally. The telephone cable got cut when they pulled up the old concrete and we had most of 2 weeks with no phone (and no internet!!!). So the new concrete couldn't be laid until bloody TElstra came fixed the phone line. I was starting to get very worried that I would be balancing over planks of wood to get out of the house and into the car when I was in labour. But unless I go into labour tomorrow, the concrete should be dry in time.
